Ballina Smartphone Film Festival is a celebration of the power of smartphones to document and storytell in our lives.A festival in two parts, the core of the festival is a showcase of short films of up to 10 minutes shot on smartphone on the subject of 'Storytelling.' Those included were selected from a global call to smartphone film makers, and from the work of two youth film groups in Ballina - Behy School Film Club and Millview North Connaught Youth Project.
The festival also includes a feature length smartphone film 'Midnight Traveller', written by Emelie Mahdavian and directed by Hassan Fazili. When the Taliban puts a bounty on Hassan Fazili's head, he is forced to flee with his wife and two daughters. Filmed entirely on smartphones, the film explores themes of danger, desperation, and the love within the family, as documented by the filmmaker himself.

Film Festival After Dark follows at 8pm with The Secret Sonic Cinematheque.
