Dit tweedelige concert met Afrikaanse supersterren vindt plaats in het kader van het Amsterdam Roots Festival. Rondom de concerten presenteren Amsterdamse kunstenaars met roots in Suriname en Namibië korte performances met verborgen verhalen uit het koloniale verleden.
Ballaké Sissoko heeft wereldwijd fans voor zich gewonnen met zijn magische spel op kora, de Afrikaanse harp. De musicus uit Mali, neef van de beroemde Toumani Diabaté, speelt nu solo voorafgaand aan de band Bamada van zijn landgenoot Habib Koité. Deze minstens zo legendarische singer-songwriter werd beïnvloed door flamenco en blues. Vaak klinkt zijn gitaar even rijk als een kora. Beiden zijn verbonden aan de traditie van de griots, de reizende verhalenvertellers die voor eenheid zorgen tussen de vele West-Afrikaanse volken.

Ballaké Sissoko gained fans all over the world with his magical playing of the kora, the African harp. The musician from Mali, a cousin of the famous Toumani Diabaté, will perform prior to the band Bamada led by his compatriot Habib Koité. This legendary singer-songwriter was influenced by flamenco and blues. His guitar often sounds as rich as a kora.
Ballaké Sissoko and Habib Koité are both connected to the tradition of the griots, the traveling storytellers that unite the many West-African peoples. This two-part concert with African superstars is presented by the Amsterdam Roots Festival. Around the concerts, artists from South Africa and the Netherlands will give short performances based on hidden stories from the colonial past.
