FREE and open to the public.
Local retired educator, Mary Anthrop, will share her research on the Cyrus and Rebecca Gordon
Ball family in a local history presentation, “The Forgotten Voice of Rebecca Gordon Ball.” In the
1850s, Ball, a native of Philadelphia, advocated compassion for the impoverished and freedom
for the enslaved.
Under the pen name of ROSA, Ball skillfully crafted a powerful literary voice in the Lafayette newspapers. Anthrop will demonstrate how the Lafayette community and Ball’s immediate and extended family supported her public expressions.
Anthrop volunteers at the Farm at Prophetstown and the Tippecanoe County Historical Association.
