This collaborative recital will introduce Balkan traditional culture and music through songs, dances and stories from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Macedonia and other Balkan countries. Brothers Teofilovići, celebrated vocal duo visiting from Serbia will be joined by local Mila vocal ensemble (MVE), Stephanie Arado (violin) and Maja Radovanlija (guitar). MVE is a acapella ensemble based in Twin cities, led by women with strong connections to Balkan counties.
Aside from traditional music from Balkans, we will present music by serbia/US composer Dusan Bogdanovic (violin/guitar duo), Miroslav Tadic (solo guitar). This program presents connections of the traditional and newly composer music inspired by Balkan music, performed by musicians in diaspora (MVE, Bogdanovic) and musicians coming from countries where this music originated (Teofilovići).
Join us for the night of amazing World music from Balkans!
This School of Music event is free & open to the public. A livestream will be available at z.umn.edu/musicstream.
