Balkan folk dances in Dublin - a dance trip to Thrace

Join me in this active workshop on Balkan folk dances in May with focus on dances from the area of Thrace - the land of roses and vast fields in today's Bulgaria. Come on your own or bring friends! Suitable for beginners or experienced.

Keep active and enjoy rich traditional music - chain dances with repetitive steps - no partner is required. This is not Bregovich music! :)

Each dance has a basic patter which I will explain in details and we can practise, then we will connect it in a chain dance. Duration of each dance is 2-3 minutes and you can choose when to participate. We will start with warm up, slow dances, and we will increase the tempo and difficulty.

What to expect on the day :

• Basic exercises and music for warm up.
• Break down of and practise some basic steps / combinations.
• Learn a few dances - some are with very easy combinations, others might be a bit more complicated. You can participate as you wish.
• Two parts with breaks:
  - Part 1 - Workshop - patterns and dances practice
  - Break (approximately 15 minutes)
  - Part 2 - Social dance- we can repeat some dances without detailed explanations, or simply dance your favourite one - slow or fast tempo. This part will be suitable for more experienced dancers if there are any present. Time can be used also for socialising.
