This is a beginner balboa series. Perfect for those new to the dance or those wanting to refresh their skills.
Birthed in the crowded dance halls of southern California during the 1920’s and 1930s, this swing dance is known for its close embrace, fancy footwork, and for taking up only a tiny bit of space on the dance floor. While typically danced to faster swing music, you can dance Balboa at just about every tempo. To the Old Timers, this dance they called Balboa was more about the feel — of both their partner, and the floor. Whether it’s Pure Bal to Bal Swing this dance is sure to thrill even the most advanced dancer with its nuance, unique connection and feel, fun stylings, and opportunity for fast tempo fun. This class will focus on teaching you the fundamental patterns and movements of Balboa!
Kristin Sorci Bio: With a 20 year background as a gymnast and coach, and a lifetime dancer and musician. She navigated into Swing dancing as a teen, and became teaching and judging staff for Lindy Hop and WCS events by twenty years old. A multi-season featured choreographer for the the hit television show “So You Think You Can Dance” and performer/instructor with Cirque Du Soleil, she is always focused on breaking down music to movement, creating a rhythmic style that is complex and intricate.
Kristin is eternally grateful for her time spent with the originators of Lindy Hop, Balboa, West Coast Swing, and Rhythm Tap, and has spent her life teaching, judging, and choreographing — traveling the world while spreading the joy of Swing dancing. A few highlights of her awards include: 2002 American Lindy Hop Championships Blues Champion - 1st Place, 2003 Boogie By The Bay Lindy Hop Jack and Jill - 1st Place, 2006 The Open/US Open Swing Dance Championships Strictly Lindy Hop - 2nd Place, 2006 Palm Springs Summer Dance Classic Champions Invitational - 4th Place, 2007 The Open/US Open Swing Dance Championships Showcase Division - 5th Place
