Balboa & Shag Holiday Workshop Day. Saturday, December 14th, 11:00 am - 5:15pmPlease join us December 14th, 2024 for our Holiday Workshop Day. We are thrilled to be hosting Blake Thiessen and Grace Babbes for a day of Balboa and Shag workshops. In addition, that evening we will be hosting our fourth annual "Stomp Off Holiday Party" featuring Live Music from Shane Allen as the band leader of Stomp Off Party!
WORKSHOP NOTES and SCHEDULE: The first two workshops of the day will be Balboa focused. The second two workshops will focus on Shag. The first workshop of each section will be beginner friendly.
11:00 AM – 12:15 PM Flow & Balance in Bal-Swing: Flow is glue that makes your Balboa feel and look magical. Come explore technique and ideas that give you mesmerizing fluidity.
(15 minute break)
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Pure Bal: Cozy Connection & Buttery Shuffles When you do Pure Bal right, it feels like you're floating across clouds. In this class we'll practice habits to connect well and develop smooth footwork.
(LUNCH TIME 1hr 15min)
2:45 PM – 4:00 PM Vintage Vibe and Shapes Collegiate Shag can look a lot of different ways, but there's a "floaty" quality you see from a lot of dancers during the swing era. Learn the difference in feel this dance has from other swing dances and some cool shapes while we're at it.
(15 minute break)
4:15 PM – 5:15 PM Footwork Play. Shag is a "footwork dance", which means it's less about the shapes and more about what your feet do! In this class, we'll explore a variety of footwork patterns and how we choose which footwork we use where.
(DINNER TIME)
LIVE MUSIC SWING DANCE PARTY
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Beginner Lesson for Swing Dance taught by Track Town Swing
8:00 PM - 10:30 PM Live Music with the Shane Allen's Stomp Off Party!
Advanced Registration is $90 for the entire day.
