An NCPA Presentation
From hand-painted shop signs and carved nameplates along Mumbai’s Marine Drive to the Gujarati identity that boldly marks the Art Deco bungalows in Balasinor, Gujarat, this exhibition reveals how typography and architecture can inscribe history, politics and mythology onto the urban landscape. Just as Balasinor’s fossils reveal ancient life, the houses of this town show how a foreign style was transformed into something distinctly Indian.

Panel Discussion: Typography and the City
8th Nov, 4:30 pm-6:00 pm
The discussion will offer insights into the ways typography interacts with architecture, signage, public space, and cultural identity. The conversation will also touch on the creative process behind capturing and designing type in urban contexts, revealing how observation, craft, and imagination come together to create meaning.
Workshop | Street Type Archive Weekend: Typography Walk & Zine-Making
22nd-23rd Nov, Day 1: 8:00-10:00 am & Day 2: 10:00 am-1:00 pm
Registration fee: Rs. 1800
The workshop invites participants to notice what usually slips by: painted signs, shopfronts, and letters that shape how we experience a place. Blending walking, photographing, and publishing, it offers a direct, creative way to engage with the city and take home a piece of Bombay’s typographic story.
