American Beavers (Castor canadensis) provide a diverse array of ecosystem services that benefit a host of other wetland-dependent plants and animals. A keystone species, their presence in a stream can increase wetland acres, increase habitat heterogeneity, reconnect degraded streams to their floodplains, reduce wildfire risk through water retention. Regardless, living with these aquatic rodents can present challenges. Come be a part of the conversation! This presentation is being given by Andrew Rutter who serves as the Director of the Baker Wetlands Education Center.
All presentations will begin at 7:00 pm. All events are free and open to all. Programs will be held in person at the Baker Wetlands Discovery Center in Lawrence. Virtual presentations will be on Zoom.
