Bagels with the Bard Reading Group - Midsummer Night's Dream
About this Event
Shakespeare is for everyone! Join Nicole on a Sunday morning upstairs at OTB to explore a Shakespeare play over bagels & coffee. Each session, we’ll make sure everyone understands the plot, parse out some of the language, discuss different interpretations of the play over time, and maybe even read aloud! Nicole is on a mission to give everyone access to the joys of reading Shakespeare as an adult - with more life experience than you had in high school, you’ll find the language isn’t a barrier to understanding & maybe even find the beauty and humor in these classic plays.
Your ticket includes a copy of the play from the Pelican Shakespeare collection - this is many actors’ preferred text for its clean presentation & concise footnotes. Please read the play before the session - no matter how much or little you understand! Shakespeare is at its best when performed, so you’re also welcome to watch any/as many adaptations as you’d like, though none are required!
For Shakespeare’s birth month, we’re offering two sessions - a comedy (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and a tragedy (Hamlet), each accessible entry points to Shakespeare! Whether you got lost reading these in high school, have seen loads of adaptations, or maybe even acted in them yourself, we welcome all readers to this exciting new group at one or both sessions!
The planned discussion for each session will be:
- 4.4.27 - Midsummer Night's Dream
- 4.25.27 - Hamlet
These are two separate events. Attendees need a ticket to each group. This page is for Midsummer Night's Dream.
