Bad Art Club is a monthly meetup for new artists, non-artists, and creatives to make art in a low-stakes environment. We focus on the process of making art and not the outcome. The only skill you need is a willingness to try.
Class Structure:
Hour 1: Warm-up mini-lesson
Hour 2: Guest artist activity
Hour 3: Guided open studio
*Bad Art Club is sponsored by Orange County Arts Commission and INKounter, a program of Grow Your World, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

About the Artist: Shady Kimzey
Shady Kimzey is an artist, educator, and communications professional from Raleigh, NC. They have an interest in media, pop culture, society, and the future. They have taught zine-making, graphic design, and mixed-media arts classes for all ages at organizations including Artspace, the Carrboro ArtsCenter, the Scrap Exchange, and WonderRoot.
Additional comment: This comes from an artistic theory I use: "Bad art saves lives". When I had a mental health breakdown in 2017, I used art as a healing modality to help me enjoy life and do something fun and creative, even if I wasn't good at it. I also learned that is very common for artists in their processes to get to a place where they don't like what they are making, but once you keep going past that, you will usually end up with something that you are happy with. AND it is totally ok to throw your art away. This is all about the PROCESS of making art and not the product. This is meant to be an accessible class that people of all ages and skill levels could achieve. You don't need to be able to hold a pencil, paintbrush, or have the dexterity for scissors. I made this class with my 85-year-old grandmother in mind. How could I make a class that she would feel comfortable taking?
