Backyard Watercoloring on the Westside for Beginners

Learn calming watercoloring techniques in the lush backyard of our Westside KC shop using paper waste and scrapped paint to make simple modern watercolor prints, cards and other tangible take-home art pieces to keep or to gift. Workshop is led by sustainable artist and founder of Slow Motion Goods, Hayley Besheer Santell.

**For the full experience, we suggest attending all 4 of the weekly watercoloring workshops. Each week we will expand upon our knowledge from the previous week + we will make a new piece of art to take home (print, cards, notebook, etc.)

About the materials and the teacher:

In this workshop, you'll learn simple and relaxing watercolor techniques that will empower you with skills for a lifetime. In true Slow Motion Goods style, we'll use paper waste, scrapped paint and even used paint brushes to make zero-waste simple modern watercolored pieces of art (prints, notebooks, cards, etc - see above) that you can proudly keep forever using theraputic color theory and brush techniques taught by Slow Motion Goods founder Hayley Besheer Santell.

With over 15 years of experience as a eco-conscious artist, Hayley began her career with a fine arts degree from Mizzou and has studied twice at Florence University of the Arts. Selected as one of the Kansas City Parade of Heart-ists, and commissioned for mural work all over the city, Hayley's portfolio includes the following mediums : watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink and is an ethical fashion designer full time for Slow Motion Goods.

Hayley teaches two workshops - Healing Art Therapy and Watercoloring for Beginners (this class.) Art therapy class on Wednesdays during golden hour is less about technique and more about slowing down the mind and the body. In this Saturday morning class, we'll learn watercoloring techniques and walk away with painted prints, cards and more that we can keep or gift. Feel free to join both workshops! Both classes will be held in the open-air of our lush greenery-filled urban backyard at Slow Motion Goods.

What to expect:

9-9:30: Arrive, order and sip on your complimentary adaptogenic drink of choice (or water), browse clothing/music/art in our shop, use restroom if needed and get settled outside

9:30-10:45: Watercoloring workshop including intro to color theory, color mixing and then ending with making your own piece to take home. Each weekly class we will expand upon the knowledge you learned in the last class.

10:45 - Stay as long as you'd like: Leaving time to wrap up our art practice without feeling rushed, we'll relax amongst the vines and trees, savor the moment perhaps on our hammock, grab another drink, shop inside or simply enjoy the moment.

Cancellation policy:

• Full refunds available, but must request with at least 7 days notice so we have enough time to recover and fill your open ticket slot. If you can't make the event with shorter notice, we ask that you please gift your ticket(s) to a friend to attend in your place!
• We must have a minimum of 3 sign-ups to be able to host each session. If we don't meet this minimum attendee count within 2 days of the event, we will cancel that individual class and offer you your preference of a full refund or exchange to attend another class.
• Class is rain or shine - if raining during or a few hours before, we will move the class inside
