On a crisp autumn evening, the unsuspecting neighborhood of Mt. Scott found itself transformed into a scene reminiscent of a dystopian opera. It was the night of the first annual “Repo! The Genetic Opera” backyard bash, an event soon to be known for its eccentricity and allure.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we set the final touches on the makeshift stage in the backyard. Fairy lights, intertwined with skeletal decorations and faux blood splatters, created an atmosphere that was both eerie and festive. The scent hearty stews from the potluck wafted through the air.
The invitation is simple: “BYOB. Bring your chairs. Potluck.” Those who arrived are met with a scene straight out of the opera. As the lights dim, neon signs, ominous billboards, and dystopia envelopes all that we use to know...
