In Richmond, you're allowed to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on your propety (with some restrictions). You might want to build an ADU or Backyard Cottage to add some extra living space to your property for aging family members or for a little extra income.

But if you're a homeowner and not a professional developer, where do you start?

If you're like me, you want to know what you're doing before you commit. I like the idea in theory and I have space on my property, but I don't have deep enough pockets for endless runaway costs.

That's where the Backyard Cottage Club comes in. By working together as homeowners, we can be a resource group for each other. We can also build strength in numbers and bring our questions to construction and permitting experts.
