About this Event
Led by UC Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener instructors, this workshop will teach attendees to identify compostable materials, start a compost system, troubleshoot composting issues, and manage organic waste.
What is compost? When food scraps and yard clippings break down in a landfill, oxygen is not available to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich material. Instead, the rotting waste will release methane, a climate super-pollutant more potent than carbon dioxide.
But! When organic material is separated from trash and decomposes naturally, the result is a valuable commodity used to enrich soils. Whether composted in a backyard or at a large commerical site, organic waste can be a resource for county residents.
Space is limited, reserve a seat today! Stay tuned for updates and future workshops. For assistance or if tickets are sold out, please reach out to planning@solanocounty.gov to talk with the Integrated Waste Management Team. Additional spots are reserved for residents of unincorporated Solano County.
Event is being held at Solano Community College's campus. Exact campus location and parking information will be provided closer to the event date.
