About this Event

Backstory Factory

Presented by John Garrad(Meanjin/Brisbane) as part of the Brisbane Improv Festival 2026.

This workshop dives into one of the most magical parts of improv: how your character seems to know everything about the world they’re in. They know where they are, why they’re there, their own personal history, and even details about the people around them. Characters know so much, and performers can too. We’ll focus on the performer’s mindset, exploring how to discover what your character knows through spontaneity, curiosity, and genuine connection with your scene partners. Together, we’ll build shared histories, relationships, and worlds that feel rich, grounded, and alive.

Workshop Length: 3 hours

Recommended experience level: Beginner (less than 12 months experience)
