Back to School: A Short Film Series in 16mm

Join us at the 125th Street Library for monthly short film series on a different theme presented on 16mm projection.
About this Event

Come get back in the school spirit with an evening of rarely screened short films at the 125th Street Library. Appreciate the feel of soft grass on your feet, learn about the magic of libraries, and sit down to a class taught by a vampire. All films will be projected in 16mm. A short discussion will follow the screenings. Film descriptions located below.

About the Films:

Invasion of the Teacher Creatures (1974) "Designed as a humorous "trailer", this short film gives us glimpses of ghoulish teachers rampaging through a school." [dir. Henry Parke] Runtime: 6m.

Visual Literacy Series: A Sense of Touch (1984) "Seeks to sharpen the audience's ability to describe their sensory experiences by showing a tomato being squashed, an ice cream cone dripping down an arm and grass being compressed under bare feet." [dir. George Johnson for the National Film Board of Canada] Runtime: 7m.

Libraries Are Kids' Stuff (1971) "Discusses the elementary school library, using as an example the Myers Demonstration Library in Tucson, Ariz. Shows how the library is geared to the young student and his teacher, and includes the impressions of teachers and children about the library." [dir. Alex Hankocy] Runtime: 15m.

I Could Hear You All the Way Down the Hall (1976) “A comic confrontation between a junior high school class that is determined to be disruptive and its teacher who is trying to keep order. The film is based upon the verbal folk game of "signifying", an amusing form of one-up-manship. The film captures the class when the teacher leaves the room, the boys' bathroom and the taking of the class picture.” [dir. Robert Gardner] Runtime: 15m.
