Johann Sebastian Bach may never have actually visited Italy but he certainly made the journey in music. An avid consumer and transcriber of his Italian colleagues, he borrowed their music as themes for fugues or took up their musical ideas to structure his own compositions. This concert brings his voracious interest to life as glittering and heartbreaking Italian concertos for strings set the stage for Bach’s Double, which invites sinuous virtuosity and exquisite tenderness from two of Dunedin’s finest.
