v. Final
The evening opens with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Pièce d’orgue — a work in three parts, reflecting the Holy Trinity. The opening Très vitement hovers in an almost timeless space, before the music deepens into a weighty, contemplative middle section, and finally rises toward a radiant and solemn resolution.
From this celestial realm emerges César Franck’s Prière — a yearning prayer from the very heart of the organ repertoire. Like a soul in quiet dialogue with the divine, the music moves between vulnerability and devotion, suffused with a mysticism that never quite finds rest, and a longing that is never fully appeased.
The evening is crowned by Charles-Marie Widor’s Sixth Symphony — a monumental work in five movements in which the full, glorified splendour of the organ unfolds. From lyrical, dreamlike passages to majestic outbursts of light and power, Widor carries the listener toward something vast and overwhelming, as if heaven itself were opening.
An evening of longing, beauty, and the ineffable — music that reminds us that there is something beyond the transient.
