About this Event

Bach and the Architecture of Influence | Stick & Bow
Sunday, March 21 | 4 PM
The Peale

Montreal-based Stick&Bow brings together Canadian marimbist Krystina Marcoux and Argentinian cellist Juan Sebastian Delgado, two dynamic musicians known for their inventive arrangements, engaging stage presence, and wide-ranging repertoire. Honored for both artistry and international outreach at Quebec’s 2022–2023 Opus Awards, the duo reveals unexpected connections among musical traditions and styles.

In this new program, Stick&Bow presents Bach not as history, but as living architecture, a blueprint that shaped centuries of music to come. Bach’s harmonic innovations, mathematical elegance, emotional depth, and rhythmic audacity resurface, transformed and reimagined, in music by Brahms, The Beach Boys, Nina Simone, Piazzolla, and others. The marimba’s warm, percussive resonance and rhythmic agility awaken new colors in Bach’s counterpoint, while the cello’s expressive voice reveals the humanity beneath its precision.

This is not historical reenactment, but artistic recognition and a celebration of the past as a living force. As these works unfold in surprising juxtapositions, the dust of centuries does not settle. It swirls and dances in the light of today, and Bach’s voice remains defiantly, beautifully alive.
