Wie lied zegt, zegt Schubert, Schumann en Wolf. Op Schumann na geven pianiste Babette Craens en mezzo-sopraan Herlinde Van de Straete u deze avond volledig gelijk. Of toch zo ongeveer. Een beetje. Een lied of drie. En gelukkig maar. Er zijn namelijk nog heel wat andere componisten die liederen hebben geschreven en, het dient gezegd, niet de minste.
Voor de liefhebbers van het Frans brengen ze speciaal voor u de Trois Chansons de Bilitis van Claude Debussy. Ook de Vier Gesänge van Alban Berg staan vanavond op het programma. Als aangename toemaatje mag Johannes Brahms tonen waarom hij zo’n gevierd componist is. U ziet het, Schubert en Wolf verkeren vanavond in uitstekend gezelschap.

With the exception of Schumann, pianist Babette Craens and mezzo-soprano Herlinde Van de Straete will prove you completely right this evening. Or at least just about. A little. A song or three. And thankfully so. For there are quite a few other composers who have written songs and, it should be said, not the slightest.
For lovers of French, they will perform Claude Debussy’s Trois Chansons de Bilitis. Alban Berg’s Vier Gesänge are also on the programme tonight. As a pleasant bonus, Johannes Brahms gets to show why he is such a celebrated composer. As you can see, Schubert and Wolf are in excellent company tonight.
