A mother's evening holds far more than meets the eye. This evocative Bharatanatyam dance drama by Aishwarya Ananth Karthik and R P Shravan sweeps the audience through a river of emotions, celebrating the tenderness, struggles, and timeless bonds of motherhood.
A poetic and evocative Bharatanatyam presentation, ‘Baala Nidra,' the evening pays tribute to the universal and timeless ritual of mothers lulling their children to sleep. Created and performed by Aishwarya Ananth Karthik and R P Shravan, this work draws from the rich tradition of lullabies and the literary wealth of Indian poetry, delicately weaving together the emotional tapestry of motherhood - love, tenderness, exhaustion, longing, and joy.
The performance traces an evening in the life of a mother: from playful dusk to the gentle rituals of bedtime, from moments of intimacy shared with her beloved to sudden interruptions as thunder frightens her child awake. Each episode vividly brings to life the shared struggles and triumphs of mothers everywhere. As the mother finally sees her family asleep, she notices another mother across the way, recognising the universality of her own experience. With the arrival of dawn, the cycle quietly begins again serving as a gentle reminder of the endless devotion and resilience that define motherhood.
Through expressive dance, evocative music, and the lyrical beauty of lullabies, ‘Baala Nidra’ celebrates ‘Vaatsalyam’, the selfless love between mother and child, inviting every viewer to reflect on the cherished memories and silent sacrifices of mothers across generations.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
