Aya Sekine returns to NYC with the premiere of her solo project Annoyed Yet Authentic (AYA) — her first improvised solo set in NYC. Featuring a special opening performance by longtime friend Akiko Pavolka.

Documentation of an Emotional JourneyThis is part of an ongoing series—my way of processing anxiety attacks and depression through sound. I’m grateful to have captured this moment once again.

I’ve previously released two solo piano albums. In those, the piano was everything—the only voice I needed. But this time, the setup is different. The soundscape is expanding, and with it, so am I.

This strip of improvisation may very well become part of my third solo album—under a new name:Annoyed Yet Authentic – AYA. That’s me now.

The chaos in my mind doesn’t necessarily create chaos in music. On the contrary, I feel grounded—deeply in control—yet completely free. Sounds, notes, ideas, colours, shapes… I’m liberated in my creative time.

I’m better than I was yesterday—but I’m never satisfied.The quest continues.
