About this Event

2023 marks 20 years since CapoeiraDC was established as a non-profit organization here in Washington, DC by Contra Mestre Morcego and Professora Borboleta, with six others. Since our founding, we have grown to empower hundreds of youth, adults, and families across the District with capoeira's art form of liberation.

We are holding our biggest Axé Fest to celebrate our 20 years! We will have guest Capoeira mestres and instructors from across the country. We will be holding capoeira classes, performances, and events across DC from Tuesday 6/6 - Saturday 6/10.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art. It was created by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom, preserving their lives and culture. Today, we practice, preserve, and promote this liberating art form, empowering our community to grow stronger together.
