About this Event

Celebrate Capoeira's tradition of freedom fighting and Black liberation with a day of free Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian dance classes!

Move your body and enjoy the rhythm at Axé Fest, our community day of FREE classes featuring the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Classes are open to kids and adults!

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art developed by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom, preserving the lives and cultures of African peoples. Today, we honor this tradition of freedom fighting and Black liberation.


Schedule:

2pm-3pm: Yoga

3pm-5pm: Intro to Capoeira Class plus Roda

5pm–6pm — Afro-Brazilian Dance (taught by Mestre Gugu)


* Intro to Capoeira classes are for people new to capoeira. No experience is needed! Wear comfortable clothes.


Who are we?

The Capoeira Spot is a community-based nonprofit that promotes the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira in Washington, DC. Capoeira was created by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom. Today, we continue to practice and teach this liberating art.
