Awit Sessions Vol. 1: Angelique Dancel & L8NR

Awit Sessions is a showcase series curated by Pagsasama (DERÉAL Collective). Drawing inspiration from the Tagalog word for song (Awit), these sessions are a window into the developing talent within the GTA. With an intentional focus on empowering acts from underrepresented communities, each session brings a curated lineup to soundtrack your dinner at Makilala.

Vol. 1 features two rising voices in Toronto's Filipino-Canadian music scene: Angelique Dancel and L8NR.

Awit Sessions runs a Cabaret-style, dinner-and-show format at Makilala.

For general ticket holders, doors open at 9:30 PM, with Soundcheck Experience holders will be invited to dine between 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM to enjoy the complete menu at Makilala.

Curated selects from the menu will be available during the show. A dining credit is applied at checkout for Early Bird and General Admission ticket holders, which can be used at the event for food and beverage.

We appreciate punctuality as seating is arranged in advance, and day-of adjustments (including late arrivals wanting to rejoin their group) will not be accommodated. Once the show has started, no late entry to avoid disrupting the performers.

Early Bird and General Admission tickets come with a $10 dining credit/per ticket built in.

Soundcheck Experience holders agree to $25 minimum spend/per person to use for the full menu at Makilala, paid day-of-show.

Angelique Dancel is a Toronto-based, first-generation Filipina-Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer blending neo-soul, alternative pop, and R&B. Drawing on influences like Olivia Dean, Eloise, and Lianne La Havas, her warm vocals and emotionally reflective songwriting balance vulnerability and strength. A background in dance shapes her approach to performance as embodied storytelling. Dancel translates emotion through movement as much as melody. Known for tracks like "Supermodel Figures" and "Unlove You," in 2025 she performed 14 live shows across Toronto's emerging scene, and this June she made her festival debut at NXNE.

Laettner Calderon, known as L8NR, is a Filipino Toronto-born indie pop and R&B artist making music out of his room since 2023, drawing inspiration from Keshi and Bixby. He's amassed over 115K Spotify listeners and 475K streams in the past year, led by his single "Lovely Night" alongside tracks like "wys?" and "missin' u." His music is built to soundtrack memory-making events: first dates, late-night drives, and falling in love.
