A.W.A.R.E Junior Lifeguard Prep Alondra Aquatic Center

The Access to Water Activities and Readiness Education Program presents a Junior Lifeguard Preparatory Program. Open to youth ages 9-17, the program aims to improve the swimming stroke and speed of prospective Junior Lifeguards. Each swimmer will learn technical skills led by an experienced Los Angeles County Ocean Lifeguard. This is not a learn-to-swim program. Each prep class meets twice a week for three consecutive weeks. Classes are one hour long with the final day dedicated to taking the Junior Lifeguard Tryout Swim.

Two sessions are offered at the Alondra Park Aquatic Center

• JG Prep 5:30-6:30 pm - April 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20
• JG Prep 6:30-7:30 pm - April 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20

Please note that you can only signup for the 5:30 pm class or 6:30 pm class. If you are registered for the 5:30 pm class you cannot show up to the 6:30pm class or vice versa.

For 2023 the time standard for the 100-yard tryout test is:

• 1:50.00 for ages 9-11 as of 7/1/23 – “C” Age Group
• 1:40.00 for ages 12-13 as of 7/1/23 – “B” Age Group
• 1:30.00 for ages 14-17 as of 7/1/23 – “A” Age Group

*Swim times are determined by the age group a child will be participating in during the program, NOT the current age of the applicant. For example, if an applicant is 11 years old on the date of the tryout, but will turn 12 on or before July 1st, they are considered a “B”, not a “C”, and must pass the required “B” swim time.

All participants are encouraged to make all swim practices. There are NO MAKE-UP CLASSES.
