Description: Give yourself an excuse to spend time wandering in nature this Spring, collecting natural objects, and creating nature-inspired collages. In this mixed-media exploration you will learn to adapt natural inspiration into patterns cut from paper (I’ve got a printer that will auto cut for us!) . Students will also create their own imagined objects from model magic. These found objects, cut paper and model magic will be compiled to create an organic collage creation. Students are encouraged to use art practices as a jumping off point, and embrace their own learning and inspiration from nature to create a one-of-a-kind collage
Class Outline:
Class 1: Discuss nature’s natural patterns and the concept of balance in design. Tap into finding what inspires beauty in you through nature. Play with textures and paper and acrylics on cardboard to create a base.
Class 2: Bring in found objects and photos to create your own patterns and stencils inspired by nature. (Kate will cut these on her Silhouette paper printer/cutter).
Class 3: Compile natural and created objects into a hanging or integrated art piece. Use paint medium, mica flakes, and paint for texture and interest. Combine, layer, and add details as you see fit!

No experience necessary, just a willingness to explore and let the project unfold in your own unique way. We’ll help support you along your journey, and intentionally create space for connection within the group. Varied learning styles and abilities welcomed.
About the workshop leader:
Kate has been turning everything into an art project since she was a child. Since then she’s been all about play, curiosity, and affirming others' creative expression. After a two decade career in graphic and web design, she now coaches artistic self-expression through individual and group coaching.
