Amina Luqman-Dawson is the Newberry and Coretta Scott King award-winning author of Freewater, a historical middle-grade novel about two enslaved children’s escape from a plantation and the many ways they find freedom. All AViD events are free to attend and seating is first-come, first-serve.
Free parking is available in the Des Moines Public Library parking garage, located below the library on Grand Avenue, and on the surface lot on the corner of 10th St. and Grand Avenue, across from the library.
Doors will open at 5:30 PM and the author talk will begin at 6:30 PM.
