Avengers Academy: Citizenship & Heritage with Captain America

DRAGONAUTS CREW 333 invites all Scouts BSA at least 7th Grade or First Class Rank to DO ONE OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

(1) Learn more about the BSA Venturing Program.

(2) Complete Requirements for the American Heritage Merit Badge.

(3) Visit a military base that is also a National Historical Landmark.

(4) Complete Requirements for the Citizenship In The Nation Merit Badge.

PREREQUISITES - MUST BE COMPLETED BY SUNDAY DECEMBER 1 TO BRING TO SHARE ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 7 for the Scouts who want to earn ONE or BOTH merit badges listed:

MERIT BADGE:

REQ #1 - Read the Declaration of Independence. Rewrite the section in your own words. Be prepared to discuss on DECEMBER 7 why you rewrote the section in this particular way.

REQ # 3 -Select a topic in the national news. It can be what you watch/read for Citizenship In The Nation Req #5.

REQ #5A - Watch "Captain America: The First Avenger" and ANY ONE of the following movies by AUGUST 18. Take notes and be prepared to discuss on AUGUST 24.

• Band of Brothers.
• Forrest Gump.
• Black Hawk Down.
• Full Metal Jacket.

MERIT BADGE:

REQ #2 - List the six purposes for creating the United States Constitution set forth in the Preamble to the Constitution. Be ready to discuss on DECEMBER 7.

REQ #3 - List the three branches of the US Government. Be prepared to explain the function of each branch and the checks & balances on DECEMBER 7.

REQ #4 - Research and be prepared to discuss all of the following on AUGUST 24.

• Declaration of Independence.
• Bill of Rights & the 14th Amendment.
• Traditional US Motto.

REQ #5 - Watch the national evening news for ANY FIVE CONSECUTIVE DAYS IN A ROW -or- Read the National Newspaper for ANY FIVE CONSECUTIVE DAYS IN A ROW - between NOVEMBER 1-30. Record your dates and news source - and be prepared to discuss the news on DECEMBER 7.

REQ #8 - List your representatives in Congress. Write a letter to your representative explaining your views on a national issue by DECEMBER 1 and bring a copy of your letter with any reply you may have received to discuss on DECEMBER 7.

NOTES - PLEASE READ ALL LISTED BELOW CAREFULLY:

1) Everyone - BSA Youth and BSA Adult - attending must bring their own completed copy of this Activity Waiver to check in on DECEMBER 7: - EXCEPT DRAGONAUTS CREW 333.

2) EVERYONE WHO IS 18 YEARS OLD AND UP must email a screenshot of their BSA Membership Card showing their BSA ID and position within their unit BY DECEMBER 01, 2024.

3) EVERYONE WHO IS 18 YEARS OLD AND UP must bring a Government Issued PHOTO ID to check in on DECEMBER 07 that matches their name on the Roster/Manifesto.

4) EVERYONE - BSA Youth and BSA Adult - attending must wear their UNIFORM ALL-DAY - AS WE WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN OPENING COLORS.

(A) Scouts BSA - KHAKI Uniform with MERIT BADGE SASH (Youth). KHAKI Uniform for Adult Leaders.

(B) Venturers BSA - SPRUCE Uniform for Adults and Youth.

(C) Sea Scouts BSA - NAVY Uniform for Adults and Youth.

(D) Dragonauts 333 - DRAGONAUTS RED for Adults and Youth.

(E) Eagle Scouts - Eagle Scout Uniform with MERIT BADGE SASH for Youth -or- OA SASH for Adults and Youth.
