Schedule
Sun Mar 15 2026 at 07:30 pm to 09:00 pm
UTC-06:00Location
Ent Center for the Arts | Colorado Springs, CO
Join Ava Grace, soprano, for an evening of original works, alongside pieces from female composers and songwriters like Clara Schumann, Sara Bareilles, and Paris Paloma.
A note about the show:
"I have spent the last four years completing my degree in music, learning about theory, composition, songwriting, music history, jazz and blues studies, aural skills, ethnomusicology, conducting, and more. I have trained tirelessly in voice, committing thousands of hours to anatomy and breath and shaping and placement and style and foreign language skills.
I have noticed, in all of this, a trend. Historically speaking, only half of the population has had its story told through song. Yes, we have the incredible works of Hildegard von Bingen and Fanny Mandelssohn. But only five percent of the pieces that we study and perform as classical musicians were written by women.
This trend continues in the commercial landscape - men outnumber women in the modern songwriting industry by a ratio of more than four to one.
Women have incredibly valuable stories to tell. I am so elated to dedicate my career, and my continuing education in graduate school, to helping those stories be told. And while I'm a big fan of writing papers, there's a much more universally approachable means of doing so - performance.
My senior recital, on March 15th, will be a presentation of female composers across time, country of origin, and genre. The second half will be a showcase of original songs, all of which are written with specific female experiences in mind - ideas of motherhood, body image standards, internalized misogyny, and being treated as prey.
The recital will also feature more than 20 women from the community as instrumentalists and vocalists. They are all putting in so much time and effort to help me make this dream come true, and I am so incredibly grateful. It would mean the world to me if you came to support us.
This event is free and open to the public. March 15th, 7:30pm, Chapman Recital Hall, ENT Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs, CO. ❤️"
