Autumn Equinox (Mabon) is one of my favourite times of the year and as always we celebrate it with a wonderful Sunrise Stroll along the lower slopes of Barnavave. We will wander along the sheep trails over to the site of the Megalithic Tomb above the Deserted Village to give a nod to our ancestors whose lives revolved around these dates. Here we will sit for a while and watch as the Sun rises over Carlingford Lough against the backdrop of the Mournes. This is the day that night and day are equal length and is a time to focus on finding the balance in our lives.
This is a gentle paced walk although it is on uneven mountain terrain with a few little inclines so a reasonable level of fitness is required as are proper clothing and footwear. No jeans or runners please.
Difficulty: Gentle on uneven terrain.
Duration: 2 hours approx
Meeting Point: The parking area near the Deserted Village on the South Commons Road, Carlingford.
What3Words app: diesel.hangouts.reconsider
Cost: €12 pp
Tickets available from www.anamtours.ie
Please be aware that the walk leaves on schedule so allow yourself time to park and prepare.
