Who: Podcast co-hosts Anne Applebaum and Peter Pomerantsev, joined by producer Jocelyn Frank

Join Anne Applebaum and Peter Pomerantsev, the co-hosts of The Atlantic’s podcast Autocracy in America, for a special live event on Tuesday, October 29, at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C.

Through discussion and short audio screenings, Applebaum and Pomerantsev will highlight the threats that autocratic leaders pose to American democracy and the long-standing vulnerabilities in the American system that can make autocratic promises alluring.

Applebaum and Pomerantsev, senior fellows at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins and staff and contributing writers, respectively, for The Atlantic, will share insightful lessons from their five-part podcast, relay stories that were left on the cutting room floor, and field questions from the audience. The evening will be moderated by Jocelyn Frank, senior producer of Autocracy in America and narrative audio at The Atlantic.

Authoritarian tactics are already at work in the United States. To root them out, you have to know where to look. Applebaum and Pomerantsev are ideal guides for this revealing and urgent examination.

This event is co-hosted by the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins and The Atlantic.

NOTE: Registration does not guarantee seating. Guests who arrive after the event begins may not be granted entry into the venue in order to minimize disruption. This event will be audio recorded and all or portions of it may be published later as a podcast.
