Autistics For Safe Food Community Workshop
The first thing people lose when they become food insecure is the dignity of food choice. For our neighbors facing disorders like ARFID, that loss can be life‑threatening. Since November 2025, Autistic Pride Chattanooga has been restoring the dignity of food choice through our autistic‑led mutual aid program, Autistics for Safe Food, and now we’re ready to ask for your help to grow.
This workshop will begin at 2:00pm with explaining what ARFID is, why Safe Foods matter, and how accessible recovery begins with dignity, predictability, and community support. You will learn directly from our Autistics for Safe Food Ambassador Maddie Bazemore, our Intersectional Justice Ambassador St. Jude Afolake Olubodun, and other autistic people who have lived with ARFID since childhood, who have faced food insecurity themselves, and who are now empowered to help others through Autistics for Safe Food.
Then after a short break around 3:30pm, we will walk you through our Safe Food Fridge, Community Request, and Direct Requests systems, with the host of our first Safe Food Fridge, and help you brainstorm how similar systems can work in your own spaces. You’ll see how dignity of food choice changes outcomes, how autistic‑led design solves gaps created by current SNAP restructuring, and why this work must remain rooted in autistic leadership and supported by strong allyship.
If you want to support neurodiverse families, strengthen food access in Chattanooga, and learn how to uplift autistic voices in practice, this workshop is for you. Free and open to the public.
