Author Talk: The Sound of Safety

Join Mara (Skinner) McCalmon and writer Phoebe Wall Howard for a powerful author discussion and Q&A about survival, resilience, and the realities that follow violent crime.

Mara survived a brutal attack in her home that left her with 26 stab wounds. The Sound of Safety goes beyond the crime itself to explore what the public rarely sees—the emotional toll of criminal trials, the lasting effects of trauma, PTSD symptoms and coping strategies, and the complicated journey toward healing and forgiveness.

Through Mara’s firsthand experience and Phoebe’s storytelling, this candid conversation will explore life before and after tragedy, navigating the criminal justice system, and finding a path forward when life has been forever changed.
