About this Event
Authors Series: Wednesday Feb 11, 5-8pm. Presentation 6-7pm, followed by a reception and book signing.
Join Wild Space Gallery for an inspiring evening with Kenn Kaufman, American author, artist, naturalist, and conservationist, as he presents his newest book, The Birds That Audubon Missed: Discovery and Desire in the American Wilderness. Kaufman examines the scientific discoveries of John James Audubon and his ornithological peers in a captivating blend of history, science, art, biography, and memoir—praised by Kirkus Reviews as “a bird lovers’ delight.” Kaufman created portraits of birds Audubon never saw, painted in his own style showing how our understanding of birds continues to gain clarity while some mysteries endure from Audubon’s time to ours.
Artist Bio:
Kenn Kaufman is an American author, artist, naturalist and conservationist who burst onto the birding scene as a teenager while hitch-hiking throughout North America in pursuit of birds, an adventure chronicled in his cult-classic book Kingbird Highway. After several years leading worldwide birding tours he shifted to a career focused on writing, editing and illustrating. Kenn is a field editor for the National Audubon Society, a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society, and the only person to have received the American Birding Association’s lifetime achievement award twice. His 14 books include his latest, The Birds That Audubon Missed, published in May 2024. Kaufman has been fascinated by Florida birds ever since his first visit at age 17.
