About The Exhibit:
This exhibit is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Ruth and J O Stone Foundation.
Wild Space Gallery presents Natural Selection: USF Graphicstudio at Wild Space Gallery, curated by Noel Smith and Mark Fredricks. The exhibition brings together two of Florida’s most innovative institutions. Through fine art prints and sculpture multiples created at Graphicstudio. Mark Dion, Graciela Iturbide, Francisco Toledo, Andrea Modica, Ed Ruscha and Janaina Tschäpe visually explore some of the ways that humanity and our natural environment interface with each other.
The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation recognizes the value of art and storytelling in relaying its mission and created Wild Space Gallery to complement statewide impact campaigns such as murals, documentary films, and travelling exhibits. The organization champions a collaborative campaign across public, private, and governmental partners to permanently connect, protect, and restore the Florida Wildlife Corridor- an 18-million acre network of connected lands and waters that supports wildlife and people.
In a similar spirit, Graphicstudio has collaborated with artists whose works have shed light on human history and societal practices since its founding in 1968 at the University of South Florida. The studio has brought a pioneering and adventurous attitude that has helped to define the aesthetic and philosophical possibilities of art in a technological age. The USF Contemporary Art Museum, sister organization of Graphicstudio in the USF Institute for Research in Art, has generously loaned the works that compose this exhibition, and Director Margaret Miller and the talented staffs of both Graphicstudio and the museum are gratefully acknowledged for their invaluable assistance. This collaborative exhibition by Wild Space Gallery and Graphicstudio aligns with the Corridor Foundation’s mission, furthering their work to conserve wild Florida.
Noel Smith and Mark Fredricks, Curators.
