Author Roundtable: The Business of Publishing

Whether you're writing your first manuscript, preparing to publish, or already have multiple books on the market, this networking event is designed to help you grow as an author and entrepreneur.

Join The Vibrant Book Club and Romantasy Authors of Utah for an evening of networking, education, and open conversation. Learn from experienced authors and event professionals who have built successful careers in the book industry, ask the questions you've always wanted answered, and connect with other writers who understand the journey.

This is part networking event, part educational panel, and part open discussion. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where authors can share ideas, learn from one another, and have honest conversations about the challenges and opportunities that come with building an author career.

We'll cover practical topics including:

• Traditional publishing vs. independent publishing
• LLCs, business setup, and taxes
• Printing, distributors, and inventory
• Selling direct to readers
• Book fairs, signings, and author events
• Marketing and growing your readership
• Working with bookstores and vendors
• Co-author agreements
• Publishing checklists and launch planning
• Building a long-term author business
• Lessons learned, mistakes to avoid, and what has worked best

We'll also be accepting questions before the event so we can prioritize the topics that matter most to attendees. There will be plenty of time for audience Q&A, networking, and open discussion, making this a great opportunity to connect with authors at every stage of their journey.

Alexandria Arden is the independently published author of The Thayar Crown series and host of the Romantasy Readers Podcast. After building an engaged online community as a book content creator, she published her debut novel in 2025 and continues to help connect readers with fantasy romance authors.

Kayla Hansen is the co-author of the completed 13-book Pantracia Chronicles fantasy romance series. Since independently publishing her first novel in 2021, she and her co-author have successfully launched an extensive series while navigating the business side of independent publishing.

Kendall Suljic is the founder of The Vibrant Book Club, a community that has welcomed more than 12,000 attendees through hundreds of events, including book fairs, author signings, networking events, and reader experiences. Having worked alongside hundreds of authors, publishers, and bookish businesses, she'll share insights on making the most of author events, building meaningful reader relationships, and using in-person experiences to grow your brand and book sales.

Romantasy Authors of Utah is a community dedicated to connecting fantasy romance authors across the state while helping readers discover local stories. Their mission is to foster collaboration, accountability, and growth by creating opportunities for authors to support one another through shared knowledge, events, book launches, and community-building.
