Don't miss the insightful discussions at our next literary evening!
This time we are pleased to present you with something a little bit different! Rather than the reading of an author we will be joined by founder and CEO of Akoo Books Ama Dadson! She will be in a conversation with Dr. Martin Egblewogbe who will lend his expertise as our moderator and facilitate an engaging dialogue.
Ama Dadson is W. Africa’s digital reading pioneer. Her audiobook startup, AkooBooks Audio, was founded in 2017 in Ghana, when inspired by her mother, a children's book author who lost her sight, she started to create accessible African audiobooks for blind and visually impaired persons.
Akoobooks Audio has carved out a niche for itself in the global audiobook market with its focus on Black/African literature, bringing the African publishing industry into sync with the front-runners in the global book markets. New developments with audio, ML/AI/ speech-to-language translations mean that AkooBooks is at the centre of the digital book industry, doing for books what Netflix and Spotify are doing for movies and music.
Prior to devoting her fulltime to AkooBooks Audio, Ama worked at the University of Ghana for over 17 years in several capacities including Deputy Director of IT Services. Ama also previously worked for UNEP DTIE, where she advised on matters related to ICT and e-sustainability and assisted with UNEP industry outreach activities, in particular those related to the World Summit for the Information Society (WSIS).
In October 2023, she was one of ten laureates of the AFD (Agence Française de Développement) Digital Challenge 6. In September 2023, she was appointed to the Royal Society Africa, UK Education Advisory Board.
