When people think of Australian music they might think of Nick Cave, INXS, The Church, or The Go-Betweens, … Like Spain, Australia also has a rich and varied world of independent music. This Australian Music Showcase at Heliogàbal presents three acts that originated from that scene.John Kennedy started his music career in Brisbane and Sydney with his bands JFK and the Cuban Crisis and John Kennedy’s Love Gone Wrong. He then went on to travel the world playing what he calls Urban and Western music. He currently lives in Catalonia performing with Paco Peñaranda under the name John Kennedy y Los Nuevos Originales.
Murray And The Movers is the Sydney based genre-bending collaboration between singer-songwriter Lizzie Mack and guitarist and writing partner Murray Cook. Together they play an Australian meets Americana blend of country, swampy blues and roots sounds. Murray is best known as a founding member of the hugely successful children’s group The Wiggles.
Peter Loveday is an Australian singer-songwriter who played with Brisbane band Birds Of Tin before moving to London to form Tiny Town. Since then, he moved to Barcelona, where he lives and performs. His latetalbum, The Man Who Loved Flowers, is a collaboration with David McClymont (ex-Orange Juice).
This showcase is a rare opportunity to see some great examples of Australian independent music together for one night only.
