Grammy Nominee Jazz bassist, Gonzalo Teppa and his fellow bandmembers will present their new project, Origins, which includes original music that draws from the musical wells of Latin American Roots, in celebration of International Jazz day and Jazz month.
Venezuelan Bassist and composer Gonzalo Teppa presents his new project “Gonzalo
Teppa, Origins”, performing his most recent original music that draws from the
musical wells of Latin American roots (Venezuelan, Brazilian, Argentinian, and Afro-
Cuban), ballads, Jazz and more. Each composition and arrangement written by
Gonzalo is inspired in the origins of each of his bandmembers as well as his native
country-Venezuela-. This new ensemble features: singer Josefina Mendez (Argentina),
guitarist Gabriel Santiago (Brazil), drummer Alejandro Castaño (Colombia-Cuba) and
bassist Gonzalo Teppa (Venezuela).
Teppa obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master in Jazz Studies degrees at CU,
Boulder. Teppa has performed with Jeff “Tain” Watts, Matt Wilson, Ed Simon, Chris
Potter, Tom Harrell, Bobby Shew, Ron Miles, Art Lande, Slide Hampton, Don Byron,
Jeremy Pelt, Ben Goldberg, among others. Some of Gonzalo Teppa’s awards are:
“Pathways to Jazz Grant-2018”, “2004, 2005, 2006 Best Jazz Soloist Award” from
Downbeat Magazine, two Latin Grammy nominations, and more. Teppa has released
six albums: “Designios”, “Travesias”, “Serpentina", “CONtrabajos de Aldemaro”,
“Sinergia”, and “Away from Home”. Currently, Gonzalo Teppa is a faculty member at
the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley and the University of Colorado at
Denver.
