About this Event
The Riverdale Hub Gallery is thrilled to announce an exhibition showcasing the work of artist Julya Hajnoczky titled “Aurora Arborealis” on display from May 1st to June 1st at 1326 Gerrard St E (The Riverdale Hub Gallery)
Born in Calgary, Canada, Julya Hajnocky was raised by hippie parents surrounded by unruly houseplants, shelves of books, and an array of art materials, with an ambience of a radio playing constantly in the background. It's no surprise that she found her calling as an artist, influenced by the wide mix of her surroundings.
Running concurrently with this exhibition is The Prefix Prize, on display will be images created in Ontario at Point Pelee National Park, as well as images from Newfoundland made during Julya’s artist residency with Terra Nova National Park in August 2023. This exhibition explores questions around habitat fragmentation and loss of biodiversity, with direct references to Canadian landscapes and ecosystems. The images are elegiac, dark, and mournful, representing not contemporary specimens but rather recontextualized relics from a fragmented world. They float in the void, evoking a sense of future nostalgia.
To Meet the Artist on May 4, RSVP to [email protected].
