Auld Reekie Retold - Edinburgh Museums visit Portobello library

View and learn about objects from the collections of Edinburgh Museums and Galleries.

The team behind the Museums Collections Project Auld Reekie Retold are bringing some of their discoveries relating to Portobello’s history and heritage to Portobello Library for a ‘story catching’ event around local knowledge and experience of their collections.

They are working with Portobello Heritage Trust who are also bringing along some of the local history objects in their care.

From swimming pool pics to promotional posters and pottery we’ll bring along objects that reflect domestic and working life and recreational and cultural artefacts.

They would also be delighted to see objects from people's own personal collections which were made, used or bought in Portobello too!

Each session will be capped at 15 individuals

Booking is essential and your details will be securely held on Eventbrite for track and trace purposes.

Due to restrictions around shared contacts we will be unable to let attendees handle the objects on display. Museums staff will wear nitrile gloves to handle the objects for inspection.

Hand sanitiser will be available on arrival.

While at the session please follow good hygiene practices.

Adults will be asked to wear masks during the session unless exempt

Adults will be asked to remain 1m socially distant throughout the session

Museums staff will be taking notes on the experience and stories shared by attendees. We will seek your permission to be able to use this information in our work and for our object records.

**Please note this visit is not seeking to acquire new material for our collections and Edinburgh Museums are not currently accepting donations to their service**
