August: Volunteer with Volunteers of America

Hi friends! I'm so excited for this month's activity with Volunteers of America Utah. We'll be at their detox center on Redwood, also known as Recovery on Redwood.

Recovery on Redwood is a voluntary, social detox environment. Clients have a communal living experience with on-site clinical support. The research shows it can take up to 30 attempts to become sober. This facility helps people on their journey to sobriety.

We'll be preparing and serving lunch to the 180 clients at the center. Spots are limited!

For this event, volunteers must be 18 and older. Please don't bring minors with you for this event, they will not be permitted in the building. However, in September, we have a volunteer activity where all ages will be welcome!

Want to do more? The men at VOA are in high need of blankets! Go through your homes, pick up something at the store, or order off the Amazon wishlist for direct delivery. New or gently used blankets are welcome and needed!

August's topic: Substance Abuse

Get Curious: Substance abuse, mental health challenges, and homelessness can affect the same individuals, creating a cycle that can be difficult to break. Without stable housing, consistent support, or access to services, small struggles can quickly become larger obstacles. By building stronger connections between healthcare providers, community programs, and supportive housing, neighborhoods can offer practical resources and encouragement that help people regain stability and rebuild their lives.
