August Translated Fiction Book Club, at Heffers Bookshop
About this Event
Minor Detail by Adania Shibli is a harrowing reflection on violence, memory, and the Palestinian experience of dispossession, translated from the Arabic by Elisabeth Jaquette.
Summer, 1949. A year after the Nakba and the brutal expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians in what Israel celebrates as the War of Independence. Israeli soldiers rape and M**der a Palestinian woman, burying her in the sand to be forgotten.
Years later, a woman in Ramallah picks up the trail of this story. Fixating on this 'minor detail' of history, she becomes obsessed with piecing together a narrative, resisting the erasure of the past and its victims.
We'll be meeting in the secondhand section on the basement floor at 5.45. Bring along yourself and your thoghts for tea, biscuits, and conversation!
