August Sensory Friendly Movie Monday
About this Event
Join Accessibility Services on Mondays at 11am for a sensory friendly movie experience for adults (18+) with disabilities and their companions. The lights will be dimmed, closed captions displayed, and fidget activities are provided. Movies will be shown in the Switzer Library Community Room; doors open at 10:45am. Registration is required.
Maximum capacity for each movie showing is limited to 40 patrons to provide the most sensory friendly experience possible.
Due to the limited capacity, walk-ins are not guaranteed program entry.
*The department reserves the right to change/cancel the event due to holidays, other library events, or unforeseen circumstances. This change will be reflected on the Events page and via email as soon as possible.

Ahoy, mateys! Pirates are taking over Sensory Friendly Movie Mondays this August in honor of International Pirate Month. Join us every week at Switzer Library as we sail through classic tales of hidden gold, space-faring ships, and unforgettable swashbucklers.
August 3rd: The Princess Bride (1987): When the beautiful maiden Buttercup hears that her true love Westley is dead, she reluctantly agrees to marry the loathsome Prince Humperdinck. After Westley returns to rescue Buttercup, the two begin an epic adventure filled with fencing, fighting, giants, monsters, miracles, true love and hilarity! Rating: PG | Runtime: 98 minutes
August 10th: Treasure Planet (2002): Jim is a young man who grew up reading tales of pirates and adventures on the high seas, and longs for similar excitement in his own life. One day a dying man hands him a map and gives him a warning. Upon careful examination, Jim realizes the map charts the course to Treasure Planet, a distant world where hundreds of space pirates have stashed their loot. Jim is certain this is the adventure he's been dreaming of and sets out to find the fabled Treasure Planet. Rating: PG | Runtime: 95 minutes
August 17th: Hook (1991): A high-flying adventure from the magic of Steven Spielberg, Hook stars Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman as the infamous Captain Hook. Rating: PG | Runtime: 142 minutes
August 24th: Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003): Sinbad, a daring and notorious rogue, has spent his life sailing the seven seas asking for trouble. Now he has been framed for stealing a priceless and powerful treasure--the Book of Peace. Sinbad has one chance to find and return the precious book, and battle the Goddess of Chaos or his best friend Proteus will die. Rating: PG | Runtime: 86 minutes
August 31st: Muppet Treasure Island (1996): When young Billy comes to possess a secret treasure map, he sets sail with mild-mannered Capt. Smollet and a host of assorted Muppets and humans in search of the wealth. Their adventure is filled with songs, wacky humor, and irreverent silliness. Rating: G | Runtime: 100 minutes
