August 20th Anniversary Concert
4pm - $20 cover - all ages welcomed. (Cash only)
August’s began as an 8-piece horn band in 1972 (4 rhythm section - 4 horns). The band worked steadily through most of 1976. Internal conflicts split the band, and some players continued together under a new name.
In 2005, the band decided to reform, only with a larger horn section.
The first return performance was in the pavilion at the then, “Walter Payton’s Roundhouse” in Aurora, now “Two Brothers Roundhouse”, on August 22, 2006. The initial performance was cut sort by a thunderstorm, but the proverbial “stage had been set”.
The band worked steadily over the following years, performing throughout the Chicagoland Area.
August played 3 of the WGN-TV’s noon news and entertainment segments between 2009 and 2010, once with WGN-TV newscaster, Steve Sanders. sitting in on guitar.
In August, 2010, the band released their first CD, “Second Time Around”, with the CD release party being held at The Roundhouse. (Note: both CD release parties have been held at the Aurora Roundhouse.) Recording was done at Jim Peterik’s “World Stage Studio’s”, and Peterik (of the Ides of March, Survivor, and composer of “Eye of the Tiger”, fame) made a guest appearance on one of the CD’s offerings. Award winning sound engineer and musician, Larry Millas, did the mixing board duties, as he did on all of August’s recordings.
A second “single” recording, done again at World Stage Studios in 2013, was a proposed City of Chicago theme, “Chicago, Calling Me home”, was written by Paul David Wilson.
