August 16th - Heart of Dinner Bag Decorating Shift (LOWER EAST SIDE SITE)
Schedule
Wed Aug 16 2023 at 11:30 am to 02:00 pm
Location
220 Broome St | New York, NY
About this Event
We are seeking volunteers to join our upcoming bag decorating shift where you can help us create quality decorated bags!
PLEASE NOTE: If you have already signed up for a different volunteer role on August 16th and have received a confirmation from Heart of Dinner (such as a packer, driver, or passenger volunteer role), please do not sign up for the bag decorating shift on the same day. Since each volunteer role typically takes place during the same time frame as the bag decorating shift, we ask that you choose only one role to avoid overlapping schedules. Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation.
If you have not signed up for a different volunteer role on August 16th, or if you requested a different role but were not confirmed, we would be thrilled if you could register and join us as a volunteer bag decorator. Registration is required to confirm your spot. You do not need to be an artist, but we ask that you spend the time to decorate with love and effort.
LOCATION: Test Kitchen located inside Essex Market @ 220 Broome Street, NY, NY 10002. Meet upstairs on the mezzanine floor in the test-kitchen (located inside the glass partition.)
SUPPLIES: We will provide the plain brown bags and art supplies, but if you would like to bring your own art supplies, we recommend using an acrylic medium so that the colors are vivid enough to show up on the brown bags. If you'd like to bring brown bags home with you to decorate on your own time, please bring a large totebag for transport.
Please register and arrive promptly at the location at 11:30AM EST. We kindly ask that you only register if you are able to show up at the start time and stay until 2PM EST.
If the spots are filled by the time you check the registration page, please sign up for our waitlist in the case you can fill in for last minute cancellations. Otherwise, we greatly appreciate you looking out for our future bag-decorating opportunities. Thank you so much for your support in enabling our mission to continue reaching our beloved Elderly communities with love and care!
At Heart of Dinner, we strive to alleviate social isolation, loneliness, and food insecurity among Asian American seniors living in significantly under-resourced and underinvested communities. We do this by thoughtfully curating culturally relevant groceries and hot lunches, which we package in beautifully illustrated brown bags with handwritten notes of love attached. We believe that not only does this provide sustenance and nutrition, but it also touches the hearts of our elderly and makes them feel loved and appreciated.
We are grateful for the contributions of volunteers like you who contribute over 600 decorated bags to enable Heart of Dinner’s hearty care package deliveries every week. Your creativity brings cheer and joy to our elderly, many of whom look forward to your artwork and often save the decorated bags to look at throughout the week when they feel lonely. Our sincerest thanks to you!
