About this Event

Join Runstreet and the National Audubon Society for a beautiful Audubon Murals 5K Art Run fundraiser to help protect birds threatened by climate change. We will take you on a journey to see the incredible Audubon Mural Project art throughout Harlem on this fun 5K running tour.

See stunning murals of feathered friends all over upper Manhattan and learn about the artists bringing these walls to life and shining a spotlight on climate change. 50% of the proceeds from all ticket sales go to the National Audubon Society.

The 5K run will be at a relaxed, 10-minute-mile pace, with stops for photos and learning about the murals. We will begin and end the run at Harlem Public, where there will be a bag drop available. All runners are invited to stay for post-run brunch at Harlem Public, supporting local restaurants.

Audubon Mural Project

The Audubon Mural Project is a public-art initiative of the National Audubon Society and Gitler &_____ Gallery that commissions a diverse range of artists to paint murals of climate-threatened bird species. It started in the Harlem and Washington Heights neighborhoods of northern Manhattan, where the great American bird illustrator John James Audubon once lived and is now buried; dozens of birds now perch on doors, walls, and security gates in a multiple-block radius.

The birds featured in the Audubon Mural Project have all been identified by Audubon scientists in its Survival by Degrees report, which found that climate change will threaten 389 bird species—at least half of all North American birds—with extinction, and that no bird will escape the impacts of climate-change-related hazards like increased wildfire and sea-level rise.
