Audubon Certified Backyard Habitat Program
Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve
Presenter: Nick Stahlman, ASWP's Community Conservation Coordinator
Learn how the Certified Backyard Habitat program helps create healthier landscapes for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife through sustainable gardening and stewardship practices no matter the size of the backyard. Following the presentation, we'll take a short walk around Beechwood to observe habitat features in action and discuss practical ideas that can be applied in your own Backyard.
The class will begin at 10 am in the Trillium Room. A business meeting will follow the program. Parking is ample at Beechwood Farms, 614 Dorseyville Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, about a 20 minute drive from Highland Park.
The program will be led by Nick Stahlmann, ASWP's Community Conservation Coordinator, Nick coordinates the Certified Backyard Habitat program and develops a wide range of environmental education programs for learners of all ages. Originally from East Tennessee, Nick holds a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management and is a semi-recent transplant to the Pittsburgh area. While birds hold a special place in his heart, Nick’s passion extends to all aspects of natural history. He is just as likely to stop for a distinctive bird call as he is to marvel at a mushroom or pause for blooming wildflowers in the forest understory.
